The Texas State UIL Visual Art Scholastic Event, VASE, was held this past weekend in Bryan/College Station. This Art Event brings the best of the best from all across the State of Texas, from EL Paso to Tyler, Brownsville to Amarillo, Houston to Dallas, and every Art student in Texas can only dream of being in the small percentage of students chosen to attend and try for an All-State ranking GOLD Medal out of 25,000 pieces of Art at the Regional level and 1500 pieces at the state level.
Region 4 North was represented by 8 students, two of which came from our school, HGA, Junior Alejandro Guerra and Sophomore Fernando Salas, with Gold medals at the Regional VASE. The State Event featured workshops all day and visiting professional artist demonstrations. Our students got to experience the eye-opening world of what a professional artist can accomplish with their career. College representatives were available and many scholarships were awarded at the closing ceremonies.
Alejandro and Fernando were both recognized at the assembly and awarded GOLD Medals as All-State art students for 2013. We should all be incredibly proud of them because they accomplished something very few students in the state of Texas can, though all dream of not only winning a GOLD medal at State but just being chosen to attend the State Event is the highest honor an art student can accomplish!
Way to Go Alejandro and Fernando for Representing HGA!
